The Vajra Varahi Mandala – Proof that the Kagyu Sect is descended from Shaivite Hinduism

I’m glad that someone else witched this out of the private collection it used to belong to, and posted it to Wikipedia Commons, which makes it public domain. I have archived it*, because I have found that whatever in Tibetan Buddhism that I bring attention to tends to disappear from the Web completely. The first case of that was the legendary Trike BB, which was being run by Tibetans, and which disappeared, in its entirety, simply because I brought attention to it. Then those deleted anatomies blamed the disappearance on me. Hey, whatever makes them feel good, you know what I mean?

This Mandala is the Rosetta Stone of Tibetan Buddhism. It discloses, once and for all, the origin of the Kagyu lineage, and therefore of the Vajrayana in general. The inner Mandala conforms to the conventions of Indian tantric art. The six-pointed star design is characteristic of Shaivite Hinduism, and it literally symbolizes Lord Shiva in union with his consort. The upwards-pointing triangle is Shiva, and the downwards-pointing triangle is Parvati. The rows of figures on the four edges are later added Lamasic attractions. Of particular interest is the row at the top:

The iconography here is undeniable. It is impossible for this to be anything but the Kagyu lineage. Particularly telling is Milarepa’s white robe. “Milarepa” literally means cotton robe. Milarepa is always represented clad in white, and no other Tibetan lama ever is. The mysterious origin of the Mahasiddhas, Tilopa and Naropa, who are the root of this lineage in Tibet, is clearly revealed. Here they are, 2nd and 3rd from the left, sporting Shaivite topknots, on what cannot be interpreted as something else than a Hindu Shaivite Mandala. Are we hyperventilating yet? Hey, if you don’t believe your eyes yet, TRY THIS:

So what’s my motivation for revealing the meaning of something that has been lying there in the public domain for years, but ignored because nobody who saw it could read it? Do I think that the Kagyu lineage is evil because Hindu? No, I wouldn’t say “evil.” I think that the lamas and others that did this and then covered it up had good motivations. But then, at least wrong, no? No, I wouldn’t way “wrong” either. Nothing that produced Milarepa could be wrong. What I would say is “weak and incapable of being transmitted to America.” The lineage convolutions over the Himalayas have destroyed the water pressure in this line, and it will never really go farther than Tibet.

I also basically have a good feeling about Vajra Varahi as well. I don’t think that she’s evil or wrong either, despite her rather flagrant departure from what we like to bill as the human norm at the moment. What I would say about her is “pathetically weak transmission, compared to the general transmission in my lineage, which is available even to those who have not taken Refuge yet.”

Yea verily, I say unto thee beloveds, it is to compare a primitive ox cart to a top of the line Mercedes, and yet again, it is to compare a barely-marked and highly treacherous path over impossibly hanging cliffs to a straight and level eight-lane highway, and furthermore and forsooth (to cite the third example without which we will be utterly unable to properly diagnose), it is veritably to compare knots on a string to a state-of-the-art Cray mainframe computer.

*Vajra Varahi Mandala photo archives — I also split the mandala image into four quadrants, and posted them as separate images, to preserve resolution, because of the size limitations at my photo-site.

  3. Please do not slander the proper Dharma by making uneducated guesses and links. To say that the lineage transmission cannot be passed on beyond Tibet is slandering the proper Dharma which continues to bring benefit to many sentient beings. Of course there are similarities between what you perceive to be Hinduism and Vajrayana, but you must remember that Vajrayana is Indian tantra and so the basis of various things, such as the Yogacara Flaming Mouth Dharma service and so forth, are also of Indian origin with Indian iconography and so forth.

It was already well known that Naropa and Tilopa had top knots, as they were Indian yogis and mahasiddhas. It was not just the Shaivites who wore top knots back in those days. Do not forget that the Buddha himself was described as having a top knot. A simple look at Chinese Buddhist master’s Five Buddha crown also shows a top knot, as do images of the various Boddhisattvas.

This is a secret Dharma, and for very good reason, so people do not create misunderstandings by viewing such images without the proper training and teachings.

    • Dear friend,

I have not slandered anything. You are hallucinating. It happens.

  4. To call the skillful means of tantra and lineage of initiation continued by the holy gurus as being “pathetically weak” and comparing the Vajra vechile to a “primitive ox cart” is, I would think, slander.
